Spring Events
Our Big Show is Lambda Chi Alpha's annual spring philanthropy event benefiting The Note-Ables. The Note-Ables is a unique nonprofit organization with a primary purpose of providing music programs and music therapy services for children and adults with disabilities. This year our house made great strides in enhancing our event to promote fundraising and the overall philanthropic reputation of our chapter. First, that was achieved by receiving approximately sixteen hundred dollars in student government funding. With those funds many advertising approaches were utilized, such as making shirts to be displayed around campus and an ad in the Nevada Sagebrush. Also, the budget from the student government allotted our house to present free food to viewers prior to the show, which increased audience anticipation dramatically. Finally, the remaining funds went to purchasing prizes for the contestants that placed in the show.
The show included participants from these sororities: Sigma Kappa, Kappa Alpha Theta, Pi Beta Phi, Delta Gamma, and Delta Delta Delta. The winner and recipient of an iPod Nano of the sorority talent show was: Kellis King from Delta Gamma.
After the show, our event fundraising total was just over TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS. Epsilon Iota is making huge strides to improve our philanthropies with every upcoming semester, and we plan to only grow entering the fall semester.
Relay for life is another Spring philanthropy Lambda Chi Alpha annualy participates in. This year the event took place on April 24 and April 25 at Mackay Stadium at the University of Nevada, Reno. The event begins at six in the evening and continues through the night until six in the morning, with the motive of "Cancer does not sleep, neither should we" as it raises money to support the American Cancer Society. During the event, each member from each team must be walking the track at all times to simulate one battling cancer. Throughout the evening, our chapter's presence could be seen from our immense team size to our set-up featuring couches and entertainment for the all participants attending the event to enjoy. This event is just another act stressing Lambda Chi Alpha's core values of a gentleman. Our house will continue to convey our principles to the public efficiently and effectively to represent the true character of a man.
